Kara is a former 18th Judicial District Court magistrate who focuses her practice on family law, child advocacy, and mediation. Kara provides full representation and unbundled services in dissolution, legal separation, child support, custody, and paternity matters.
Kara’s creativity and empathy, along with nearly a decade and a half of experience serving the Colorado Judicial Branch, uniquely equip her to help families navigate challenging transitions.
As a trained mediator and seasoned litigator, Kara supports clients by providing strong, capable, solution-driven legal services, whether through settlement or litigation. During decades of legal practice, Kara has represented clients in family law, elder law, probate, estate planning, and consumer matters. Kara understands the complex interplay between the family law, probate, child welfare, and criminal court systems.
Over the course of her career, Kara has presented to judicial, lay, and legislative audiences on topics ranging from criminal diversion programs to family law. Kara has trained scores of attorneys and court professionals. Kara is a member of the Colorado and Arapahoe Bar Associations, the Family Law and Solo and Small Firm Sections of the CBA, and the Colorado Women Owned Law Firms group. Kara serves as a volunteer mediator with Colorado Legal Services and Metro Volunteer Lawyers. Kara is a subject matter expert, consultant, and trainer for the University of Colorado Anschutz Kempe Center’s Child Welfare Training System through Project LENSS: Lived Experience: Navigating Systems and Story (LENSS). Project LENSS strives to infuse child welfare work with empathy and compassion by sharing the human element behind every administrative decision and each written word.
Kara graduated from Indiana University Maurer School of Law in 1996 and obtained a Bachelor of Arts in 1992 from the University of Texas at Austin. Kara is licensed to practice law in Colorado (active status) and New Mexico (inactive status).
